(a) Under Graduate Programme (B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) (five years integrated programme)
(1) Each course, along with its weightage in terms of credits, shall require approval of the Academic Council. Only approved courses can be offered during any semester.
(2) Each approved course, whenever offered in any given semester, shall be conducted by the assigned Teacher-in-Charge. The concerned Teacher-in-Charge shall be responsible for conducting the course, holding the Mid-Term & End-Semester Examinations under the supervision of the In-Charge Examinations of the University, assigning the projects, evaluating the performance of the students and awarding the Grade at the end of the semester.
(3) The List of courses to be offered by the University, during any semester shall be finalized before the beginning of the semester by the Academic Council.
(4) The Teacher-in-Charge for all the courses to be offered by the University during any semester shall be assigned by the VC / Head of the Department.
(5) In each Semester there shall normally be one Mid-Semester Examination and one End-Semester Examination besides surprise tests and project work.
(6) The examination system of the University shall be targeting constant monitoring of student’s academic progress and transparency of the evaluation methods.
(7) No student shall be permitted to take the End-Semester examination in a given course unless he/she has, to the satisfaction of the teacher concerned, fulfilled the course requirements and has secured not less than 75% of attendance in the class and related work assignment in the said course. The consequence of not fulfilling this requirement will result in either dentention in the same class or repeat the course and loss of one year.
(8) Evalution shall be entirely internal. The teacher, who will offer the course, may be required to frame the question paper that will be moderated by a Committee to be constituted by the Director. If a course is offered by more than one teacher, the setting of question paper and the evaluation may be done jointly.
(9) A candidate to be successful in the examination will have to obtain at least 50% marks or minimum four grade points in every course.
(10) Students, who fail to appear in any examination due to bonafide reasons, may be permitted to appear in the Repeat Examination, on the recommendation of the Head of the Department, as a special case.
(11) There shall be no Repeat Examination for those students who fail to appear or fail in the Mid-Term Examination.
(12) Each student registered for a particular Semester course shall be awarded a letter grade by the concerned Teacher-in-Charge. The Grade awarded to the student depends upon his performance in various examinations of the course. The contribution of each component of the course while deciding the grade shall be in accordance with the scheme given below:
- Project Work: 15 % (10 % for the written report and 5 % for presentation and viva-voce)
- Surprise Test: 10 %
- Mid - term examination: 15 %
- End - term examination: 60 %
(13) There are five regular letter grades. The following table gives the corresponding letter grades and the grade points assigned to them:
- Letter Grade A B C D F
- Grade Points 10 08 06 04 02
(14) F grade in a course means a ‘fail’ in that course and the student shall have to repeat the same course. Once a course has been repeated by the student, the letter ‘R’ will be associated with the new grade obtained in the Grade Sheet to indicate that the course was repeated.
(
15) A student may be awarded a grade “I” (Incomplete) if he/she has missed End Semester Examination (Theory and/or Practical) with prior permission (granted only for unavoidable situations by the Director) but has otherwise been regular. Not appearing in the final examination does not entitle a student to an automatic I grade.
(16) All “I” grades awarded by Teachers-in-charge must be converted by them to appropriate letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) and communicated to the office of the examination-in-charge for this the students will have to appear in the missing component(s).
Any "I" grade outstanding two days after the last scheduled Repeat Examination shall automatically be converted to an "F" grade.
(17) All the answer scripts of Surprise Tests, Mid Term and End Term Examinations shall be shown to the students within a week’s time after evaluation and all the queries made by the student should be clarified by the Teacher-in-charge. Any change of grade, if found necessary, must be sent together with proper justification by the Teacher-in-charge to the office of the In-Charge Examination immediately after the change so made.
(18) If a graduating student has only one pending F grade at the end of ten semesters and has a CPI > 5.0, a special End Semester Examination may be conducted for such student in the month of July/August. The students of previous batches can also avail this opportunity to graduate if they have only one pending F grade.
(19) Each course shall carry a weightage of ‘5’ credits unless otherwise specified by the academic council.
The Semester Performance Index (SPI) will be the weighted average of the grade points. If the grade points of the letter grades awarded to a student in five courses are denoted by g1, g2, g3, g4. g5, and the weights of the courses by w1, w2, w3, w4, w5 respectively, the SPI will be computed as follows:
| |
w1g1 + w2g2 + w3g3 + w4g4 + w5g5 |
| SPI= |
———————————————— |
| |
w1 + w2 + w3 + w4 + w5 |
(20) The index describes the performance of the student in the courses of a particular semester.
(21) The Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) will be used to describe the overall performance of a student up to and including the latest semester. It will be computed in a similar manner from the grade points of all the grades the student has received since his beginning of the course.
| |
w1g1 + w2g2 + w3g3 + |
| CPI = |
————————————— |
| |
w1 +w2 +w3 |
